Speaker A советует продумывать всё заранее: "It's necessary to think about everything beforehand, like making a list of guests and buying food and soft drinks and writing up a menu" — это рубрика 6, "They need to be planned in advance".
Speaker B говорит только об угощении: "the most important thing to think about is definitely what will be on the table for your guests to eat... a delicious birthday cake with cream, chocolate and maybe fruits and berries" — рубрика 2, "They must have tasty food".
Speaker C любит сюрпризы без всякого плана: "I love surprise parties... you don't actually plan anything in particular" — рубрика 1, "They should be unplanned".
Speaker D хочет запоминающийся праздник: "a really good birthday party must leave a lasting impression on people", а обычные торты и клоуны его не устраивают — рубрика 4, "They must be memorable".
Speaker E предпочитает узкий круг гостей: "I don't actually like inviting a lot of people to my birthday party... A limited circle makes it more comfortable" — рубрика 3, "They should be quite small".

| 1. | What makes Moscow very popular among tourists? |
| 2. | What is the best season for tourists to visit Moscow? |
| 3. | What are good and bad things about the city transport? |
| 4. | What is special about the Moscow underground? |
| 5. | What theatres should be visited in Moscow? |
| 6. | What is Moscow’s most famous shopping mall? |
| 7. | What are the presents to be brought from Moscow? |
| A. | The peak of the Moscow travel season is May through September. However, tourists may prefer to travel to Moscow during the low travel season. The snowy winter months offer just as many entertainment options as one can find during summer. Tourists can celebrate New Year’s Eve or see Russia’s biggest ice rink on Red Square, or visit one of the local winter markets. Any Moscow tour has plenty of memorable experiences the whole year round. |
| B. | As one of the largest cities in the world, Moscow comes with its share of traffic problems. It seems that all of the world’s most expensive black cars are here, and there are a lot of traffic jams. Still, while the traffic situation leaves much to be desired, the Moscow underground is superb. The advanced Metro system carries up to 9 million passengers a day on weekdays, and its trains run every few minutes. It is a convenient way of travelling around. |
| C. | When people travel to Moscow, they want to see the red-bricked walls of the Kremlin, take a picture in front of St. Basil’s Cathedral, and visit the world-famous Bolshoi Theatre. All of these places are located within a very small area around Red Square. So seeing them on a walking sightseeing tour of Moscow is convenient and allows visitors to avoid traffic jams. The concentration of Moscow main sights makes this city a world-class tourist destination. |
| D. | Set in the heart of Moscow the State Department Store known as GUM produces a great impression on visitors. It was built between 1890 and 1893 to replace the old trading rows of 1825. The building stretches along Red Square’s eastern side. The entire structure is a beautiful testament to Russian architecture with its mix of medieval and modern features. The glass roof allows natural light to flood into this three-story palace. |
| E. | The Moscow Metro has been a much-needed mass transit project. But it is not just a series of trains and tunnels. The Moscow Metro is like a whole underground city that holds the world’s largest collection of Soviet Art. The first stations were opened on May 15, 1935. They were described as one of the greatest architectural projects of that time. The original 13 stations, along with many others that were built later, feature unique works of art. |
| F. | The most exciting part of any journey is the memories people create while discovering new places. And souvenirs are among the most popular options to save the happiest moments not only in one’s heart but in the form of something more material. Apart from classic T-shirts and fridge magnets with local attractions, many other things can bring to mind the best moments of Moscow trip. The gifts range from Matryoshka dolls to the Tretyakov Gallery photo album. |

Eton
Within a ten-minute walk of Windsor Castle, across a bridge over the River Thames, there’s an old Gothic building. It is the legendary Eton College. It is one of England’s largest independent schools and one of the highest in prestige. Members of the British royal family are traditionally educated here. It was one of the best schools when first founded and remains so now; it is still commonly known as one of the greatest schools among all the schools in the world.
Following the old tradition, Eton is a full boarding school, which means all students live and study at the school with their fellow students throughout the school year. Eton is also one of the four remaining boys’ schools, so there’s no opportunity for a girl to study there. Eton students traditionally come from England’s wealthiest and most prestigious families, many of them aristocratic. Boys enter Eton at about 13 and continue to study there until they are ready to enter university.
The school was founded by Henry VI in the fifteenth century to provide free education for poor pupils who would then go on to get a higher education at King’s College in Cambridge. That connection no longer exists today.
All students have a uniform of a black tailcoat and a waistcoat, a white collar and dark trousers. All students wear a white tie. This uniform is not for special occasions, it is worn at all times for all classes. If you visit Eton during term time, you will see students walking along the streets with books under their arms dressed in their uniforms.
At Eton, there are dozens of organisations known as ‘societies’, in many of which students come together to discuss a particular topic. The societies are traditionally governed by the boys themselves. Societies range from astronomy to Scottish dancing and stamp-collecting. Some of them are dedicated to music, some to arts, some to languages, and so on. Meetings are usually held after supper and often include a guest speaker. Among past guest speakers were composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, designer Vivienne Westwood, and actor Ralph Fiennes.
One of the oldest and most influential Eton societies is called the Pop. Its members are like school head-boys or prefects who are given limited authority over other students. They are called Poppers and take an active part in many official events of the school year, including parents’ evenings. While all students wear black waistcoats, members of the Pop are allowed to wear any waistcoat they please. Prince William, when he was a Popper, wore a waistcoat designed like the British national flag. The style immediately became popular.
Irrespective of this, the official colour of the college is the so-called ‘Eton blue’. It’s a light blue-green colour which has been used since the early 19th century. The main purpose was to identify Eton sportsmen in rowing races and on the cricket field.

Subject: Robots
… I’ve just watched a TV series about robots, their past and future. Robots are so cool! If only they could do my homework.
...What jobs would you like a robot to do at your home? What else can robots be used for? Do you find science fiction films interesting, why or why not?....
Write a message to Ma х and answer his 3 questions.
Write 100–120 words.
Remember the rules of email writing.
Решение
Друг по переписке Max задаёт в письме три вопроса: «What jobs would you like a robot to do at your home?», «What else can robots be used for?», «Do you find science fiction films interesting, why or why not?»
Dear Max,
Thanks for your letter, that TV series sounds really interesting, I'd love to watch it too!
To answer your questions, I would like a robot to do boring jobs at home, like cleaning the floor and washing the dishes, so I could relax more. Besides housework, robots can be used in factories, hospitals and even space exploration, where the work is often too dangerous for people. I do find science fiction films interesting, because they show possible futures and make me think about how technology might change our lives.
Would you like a robot to help you with your homework too?
I'd better finish now, it's time for dinner.
Best wishes,
Alex

People have always wanted to discover new things and new worlds. We have built spaceships to go to other planets and are planning to visit other galaxies one day. Meanwhile, we know very little about our own planet. The oceans, which cover 70 percent of the planet, are an unknown world to us. The Pacific Ocean is the largest one. The lowest point on the Earth is also there. It is called Challenger Deep and it was discovered in 1875. The Pacific Ocean stretches from the Arctic Ocean to the coast of Antarctica, but most of its water is in the warm tropics, which makes it warm. A lot of fish and animals live in the Pacific Ocean. The place is still waiting for researchers to discover its secrets for us.

People have always wanted to discover new things and new worlds. We have built spaceships to go to other planets and are planning to visit other galaxies one day.

You have to talk continuously.
I would like to talk about travelling. Most people enjoy travelling because it gives them a break from their daily routine and a chance to see something completely new. It also allows them to relax and forget about work or school problems for a while. While travelling, people like doing many different things, such as visiting museums, trying local food and taking photographs of beautiful views. Some travellers also enjoy meeting local people and learning about their traditions. As for me, I would love to go to Japan because I am fascinated by its mixture of ancient traditions and modern technology. I would especially like to see the cherry blossoms in spring and visit an old temple. My attitude to travelling is extremely positive. I think it is one of the best ways to broaden your outlook and become more open-minded. Travelling also helps you appreciate your own home more once you return. That is why I try to travel as often as my time and budget allow. In conclusion, travelling is a wonderful experience that everyone should try.
