В предыдущем предложении говорится о трудностях, с которыми столкнулся Генри: его лекции не понимали, так как у него были странные идеи для того времени (...gave lectures which people did not understand very well, for he had strange ideas for those times). В предложении с пропуском сообщается, что, несмотря на это, он не бросил свои занятия: ...Henry didn’t give up his philosophy and devoted his time to writing his thoughts down.
