Пропуск находится во втором абзаце: «...a short story I was 31 ______ to submit to a magazine on Monday morning».
В контексте предложения автор говорит о рассказе, который он должен был отправить в журнал в понедельник утром: «...a short story I was supposed to submit to a magazine on Monday morning».
- 2) succeeded (преуспел) — этот глагол требует после себя предлога in и герундия (succeeded in submitting), а не инфинитива с частицей to.
