The Lion Lights

Michael Kahumbu lives with his big family in Africa. He has been helping his father to take care 30 ______ their sheep since he was nine years old. Unfortunately, lions’ attacks on farm animals are quite common in their region. One day the boy decided to protect their sheep and 31 ______ lions’ attacks. While walking around the pasture late in the evening Michael noticed that lions were afraid of his moving flashlight and stayed away from their place.

Soon he realised how to trick the wild cougars. As a true innovator, he was eager to experiment without worrying that his 32 ______ might not work. Despite his 33 ______of any formal training in electrical engineering, he designed a system of flashing LED light bulbs on poles and placed it around their pasture. Surprisingly, these blinking lights, which he made from car headlights, car batteries, and a solar panel, scared the lions away from their territory.

Eventually, the word got out about the brilliant “lion-lights boy” and Michael 34 ______ the Lion Lights system for many of his neighbours.
