The world first discovered China through the writings of adventurer Marco Polo more than 700 years ago. Ever since, this large Asian country has come to be regarded as the embodiment of everything that is mysterious and exotic. Even now, A__________, this vast country has lost none of its attraction. Indeed, the contrast between China’s ancient customs and the new ultra-modern state has only increased the fascination with its culture B__________.
It is a culture that is much celebrated by the Chinese themselves, as evidenced by the preservation of such important historic sites as the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace in Beijing, C__________. В пропуске A необходимо дополнить обстоятельство времени, которое противопоставляется прошлому (more than 700 years ago). Фрагмент 1 логически завершает мысль о том, что даже спустя десятилетия экономического роста страна не утратила своего очарования.
В пропуске B требуется определение к существительному culture. В конце второго предложения первого абзаца сказано: ...increased the fascination with its culture that dates back more than 5000 years. Вариант 3 грамматически верно присоединяется через относительное местоимение that и характеризует древность китайской культуры.
В пропуске C описываются достопримечательности Пекина. Во втором абзаце находим: ...the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace in Beijing, each recalling the days of China’s emperors. Причастный оборот из варианла 5 поясняет значимость этих мест, напоминая о временах императоров.

Причастие winding (изгибаясь) из варианта 4 идеально подходит для описания протяженности стены, указанной далее в предложении.
В пропуске E нужно уточнение для городов Китая. В середине второго абзаца читаем: The cities of the Middle Kingdom, more than 50 of which have populations of over a million... Вариант 2 содержит конструкцию of which, которая относится к городам и логически связывается с последующим упоминанием численности населения (over a million).
В пропуске F требуется вторая часть альтернативного условия, начатого союзом whether. В третьем абзаце указано: Whether people choose to travel aboard a luxury cruise ship, or seek out the peace of an ancient temple, this country is full of incredible experiences... Вариант 7 создает необходимую пару whether... or..., предлагая выбор между роскошным круизом и спокойствием древнего храма.
