Grace, picture this for the New Year project: one shot's freezing, the other's on a beach. In the first, a woman in a warm coat and hat is standing next to a snow-covered, decorated Christmas tree. In the second, a couple in Santa hats is celebrating on a sunny beach, next to a small tree and some wrapped presents. Freezing in one, sunbathing in the other — you'd never guess they're both New Year's Eve, which is exactly why I picked them.
A snowy New Year feels traditional and cosy, what with the lights, the snow, that real winter mood. A beach New Year lets you relax in the sun instead, which has its own appeal. The catch with snow is the freezing temperatures, plus travelling anywhere in bad weather. A beach celebration can feel oddly quiet, too, without any of the usual decorations or snow around.
Given the choice, I'd take the snowy version every time — it feels magical, and it's what I grew up with. A warm beach sounds relaxing, sure, but it just wouldn't feel like a real New Year to me. Both sound fun, honestly, but snow wins it for me without much of a contest. Snow every time for me — enjoy the countdown, Grace, speak soon!
