Zoe, summer holidays project — two photos, and they couldn't be more different from each other. The first has a mother and daughter gardening together, watering some young plants. The second shows a father and son building a sandcastle on a sunny beach. A summer with soil under your nails or sand between your toes — that's the contrast the project's built on.
Gardening together teaches kids to look after plants and enjoy being outdoors close to home. A beach holiday gives you swimming, sunshine, and games like building sandcastles, which is a different kind of fun altogether. The trouble with gardening is the work involved, especially on a properly hot day. Beach holidays get crowded too, and the long car journey there can be exhausting.
As a kid, I always chose the beach — swimming and playing in the sand for hours was unbeatable. Gardening with my parents was nice as well, but nothing beat the excitement of the sea. Both kinds of holiday have their charm, sure, but the beach won every time for me. Remember building sandcastles at the coast last year? Miss those summers — speak soon!
